Eightball 19-21 by Daniel Clowes

David Boring in three parts!
This might actually be my favorite Clowes book. I understand its a bit of a dark horse for some, but I chalk that up to the expectations people had for Clowes at the time. David Boring is not as stylishly surreal as "Like a Velvet Glove" nor is it is understated slice of life found in "Ghost World." And it's certainly not the dark gag humor of Lloyd Llewellyn. Instead, David Boring augured a shift in Clowes' approach and where his interests would take him in the 21st century. There's a reckoning with the relationship between sexuality and superhero comics that would be explored more succinctly in "The Death Ray" while simultaneously Clowes was more consciously working with dramatic form. It is an interesting experiment and one that largely works.
